The Wellington Phoenix have recorded their first win of the 2024-25 season in clinical style to celebrate Kosta Barbarouses\u2019 100th<\/sup> Isuzu UTE A-League match for the club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Headed goals either side of halftime have secured the Phoenix a 2-0 win over Perth Glory in their second round match at HBF Park in Perth.

Centre back Scott Wootton put the Nix in front late in an evenly contested first half before fullback Tim Payne doubled their advantage four minutes into the second half.

The goals were set-up by the team\u2019s Japanese signings Hideki Ishige and Kazuki Nagasawa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phoenix head coach Giancarlo Italiano was \u201cvery happy\u201d when he spoke to media post-match.

\u201cAlways delighted, it doesn\u2019t matter what game it is, to pick up three points,\u201d Italiano said. \u201cEspecially away from home. Coming to Perth is such a long trip.

\u201cWe dug in deep, especially the first 20 [when] I felt they were on top. They made it very difficult for us.

\u201cOnce Payney I think it was maybe 25 in\u2026 made a big chance…the boys lifted after that.

\u201cAnd after that we scored. Perfect timing five to seven minutes before halftime, which is always a crucial period in football, and then in the second half we scored early, and I think that was pretty much the game.

\u201cI\u2019m stoked. In the A-League I can honestly say that any team can beat any other team. It\u2019s also good to get the monkey off the back.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
